13th Amendment

13th Amendment 
1) "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." Section 1: The 13th Amendment The 13th Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865. 
2) The 13th amendment officially abolished slavery in the United States but the emancipation proclamation was one of the first steps towards freeing slaves. emancipation vs amendment
